Parc écologique du millénaire

Le Parc écologique est un îlot de verdure en milieu urbain pas comme les autres. Inauguré en 2000, il a pour mission d’être un outil d’éducation à l’environnement invitant tous et toutes à des actions et engagements réels et réfléchis pour inverser la crise écologique contemporaine. Il héberge plus de 600 arbres/arbustes indigènes. On y retrouve des œuvres d’art, des sentiers, un pavillon, un étang et un ruisseau, et ce, en bordure du campus de l’Université de Moncton, d’un quartier résidentiel et d’un boulevard.

Symposium d’art/nature

Le comité organisateur prépare la tenue d’un Symposium d’art/nature du 22 septembre au 2 octobre 2016 à Moncton. www.artnaturemoncton.ca

Thème

Depuis longtemps, l’être humain pense qu’il doit être maître de la nature, que cette dernière est là pour être travaillée, cultivée, exploitée pour répondre à ses besoins croissants. Mais cette approche nous a amené bien au-delà des limites biophysiques de la planète comme en témoigne la crise des changements climatiques. L’enjeu existentiel de comment y répondre de manière durable et viable nécessite d’accroître la réflexivité créative humaine. Les arts et l’écologie se retrouvent alors parties prenantes du grand défi du XXI e siècle.

Jusqu’à sa création, le Parc écologique du Millénaire a été un espace non-utilisé, à l’abri du développement du territoire environnant. Avec l’action humaine de sa création et l’ajout successif d’œuvres d’art public, cet espace s’est développé en fonction d’aménagements motivés par un souci d’éducation à l’environnement.

Compte tenu du chemin parcouru depuis la création du parc, des questions persistent. Que fait-on des espaces délaissés? Comment l’artiste peut-il ou elle appuyer la mise en valeur d’espaces qui ne sont ni le produit d’une utilisation ou d’un aménagement quelconque, ni l’objet d’une zone protégée? En d’autres mots, comment négocie-t-on l’interstice entre nature et culture, et tous les conflits qui y résident? Comment parvenir à un aménagement culturel et écologique du territoire?

Soumission de projets au plus tard le 12 août 2015

D’ici le 12 août 2015, nous invitons les artistes qui ont une démarche artistique in situ à proposer un dossier/portfolio avec un projet qui pourrait se développer sur une période de dix jours et qui investir l’espace public.

Votre dossier doit comprendre :

• une lettre de présentation avec coordonnées complètes (adresse postale, courriel, téléphone);
• un texte décrivant une intention de recherche (max. 200 mots) (.doc, .pdf);
• un curriculum vitæ (.doc, .pdf);
• une documentation succincte permettant un aperçu de votre travail: dix à vingt images numériques (max. 2 Mo total) accompagnées d’une courte description (liste en .doc, .pdf), une bande audio/vidéo (max. 5 min. placée sur un service de vidéo sur internet) et/ou tout document pertinent;
• un dossier de presse et/ou texte critique sur votre travail (facultatif) (.doc, .pdf).
Par souci écologique, nous vous invitons à transmettre votre dossier (poids maximal : 8 Mo) par voie électronique à l’adresse : projet (arobas) artnaturemoncton.ca

Le symposium paie les droits correspondant aux normes recommandées par CAR/FAC.

Parc écologique du Millénaire (Millennium Ecological Park)

The Ecological Park is an urban green island like no other. Inaugurated in 2000, its mission is to be an educational tool for the environment inviting all to real action and commitment. It was conceived as a means to reverse the contemporary ecological crisis. It is host to more than 600 native trees and shrubs. It includes works of art, trails, a pavilion, a pond and a stream, and is situated on the edge of the Université de Moncton campus, adjacent to a residential area and a boulevard.

Theme

For a long time, human beings have thought they must master nature, that it is there to be worked, cultivated, and exploited to meet ever growing needs. But this approach has brought us far beyond the biophysical limits of the planet as evidenced by the climate change crisis. The existential challenge of how to respond in a sustainable and viable way requires increasing human creativity. Art and ecology are thus interwoven and involved in this great challenge of the twenty-first century.

Until its creation, the Millennium Ecological Park was an unused space, free from the development of the surrounding territory. With the human action of its creation and the addition of successive works of public art, this area has been developed with a concern for education on the environment.

Given the progress made since the park’s creation, questions persist. What happens to abandoned areas? How can artists contribute to the value of spaces that are not the product of any use or development or the subject of a protected area? In other words, how does one negotiate the gap between nature and culture, and all the conflicts that live there? Can a balance between cultural and ecological planning be achieved?
Projet proposals will be received until August 12, 2015

By August 12, 2015, we invite artists who have in situ artistic approach to propose a project that might develop over a period of ten days and invest public space.

Your proposal must include:
• a cover letter with full contact information (mailing address, email, telephone);
• a project description (max 200 words.) (.doc, .pdf)
• a cv (.doc, .pdf)
• a brief documentation of previous work: ten to twenty digital images (max 2MB total.) Along with a short description (list .doc, .pdf), audio/video documentation (max 5 min. placed on a video service on the internet), and/or any other relevant documents;
• a press kit and/or critical text on your work (optional) (.doc, .pdf).

The Symposium pays artist fees corresponding to the standards recommended by CARFAC.
